Coming with everything you could need, from transom to mounting bracket this bad boy will improve your fishing in no time. Breakdown of the Features

With colorization for the LED, you’ll be able to spot various types of fish with ease. For the reading depths, it goes pretty deep for the non-commercial fisherman, and is definitely a staple piece as you journey out onto the water. With dual frequency and the ability to detect the water temperature, you’ll be able to pinpoint and get a general idea of where the fish may be before the fish finder even tells you.

First Impression

I have to say I was pretty confident when ordering this fish finder as I have a Garmin made GPS in my car and definitely trust the company. I know Humminbird and Lowrance are pretty high up there for quality as well. However, I decided to go with the Garmin model because of the price and how reliable I think the brand is and I am very pleased with my choice. Everything came quickly and was packed well. The brackets and transom were very easy to mount and I am happy with the clarity of the screen and the high degree of detail in the image, including being able to see your jig which my old one didn’t do. So, right from the start I already had reason to like it and be pleased with my purchase and I have yet to be disappointed with its performance. It was very easy to set up and I didn’t have to even glance at the instruction manual to start using it, which is always a plus in my book.

The Advantages of the Product

Easily the best thing about the Garmin Echo 500c is the ability of the user to see their jig on the screen so you know exactly where is in relation to the fish. No guess work, just straight up good quality product with clear easy to read display and user-friendly interface. I didn’t have to use the instruction manual at all in order to figure it out, which to me is always a serious plus.

For those who don’t really know how fish finders work here is the quick and dirty. Fish finders are able to develop a picture of the underwater environment by sending out sound waves and waiting for them to bounce off of objects in the water and return to the transducer. The transducer then relays all the information back to the transom and creates the picture. A lot of things can affect this but the important things to pay attention to are the frequencies used and the cone that sends and receives the beam. The different frequencies will do different things in the water. Higher frequencies can travel deeper than lower frequencies but lower frequencies are better at detecting objects. Which brings me to my point. This fish finder uses both frequencies in order to develop and accurate picture. It also has a super wide cone which allows the device to send signals in a one-hundred and twenty-degree angle which gives you a broader view of the environment and allows you to get a crystal-clear view of the bottom as well as being able to find more fish.

Another really impressive feature of this fish finder is the depth it can read. Though I haven’t been able to test the accuracy of this claim thoroughly (due to the lake I usually fish in not being two thousand feet deep) I am inclined to believe this product would be able to do it. The amount of detail it is able to pick up and display is pretty impressive and I have been able to find a few new spots I didn’t know were there, which makes going out a little more fun and adds some excitement.

The Disadvantages of the Product

The only thing I could see being a downside with this product is that the screen is on the bigger side. Personally, I like the size as it makes everything easier to read, especially at a distance, though I could see how this might be an issue for someone in a smaller boat. If you have a kayak or something around that size this fish finder might be a little cumbersome and get in your way. Though, if you have the space it’s definitely a good deal.

What’s in the Box?

It comes with an instruction manual, though I don’t think you will really need it as the unit is pretty intuitive. It also comes with mounting brackets for the transom and a clamp for the transducer.

The Final Verdict

Overall, I can’t say I was surprised by the quality of this product but I am definitely happy with it. It performs precisely as I thought it would and has been reliable and durable since I got it. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to take their fishing to the next level. Whether you are a professional or beginner the Garmin Echo 500c is what you need to bring your A game out on the water.
